ARLINGTON -- Stanley Clyde Smith, 91, passed on at 4:50 p.m., Monday, December 5, 2005. He lived in Arlington until June 2005 and then moved in with his daughter. He was born January 16, 1914 near Helena, OH to Clyde Harrison and Mildred (Garn) Smith. His mother died February 23, 1923. His father then married Mable Hummel Aldrich. He was proud of the fact his Garn ancestors settled the town of Helena and it was named after his great-aunt. He married Thelma Price of Mt. Blanchard on July 31, 1937 in Helena. She passed away April 25, 2002 after nearly 65 years of marriage. He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Beach, rural Findlay; a son, Frederick G. Smith, Westerville; 7 grandchildren Bradley (Stephanie) Beach; Dawn (Gregory) Feller; Nicolette (Dean) von Stein; Amelia (Roger) Bower; Rebecca (Joseph) Hench; Chadwick (Yoko) Smith; Jeffrey Smith; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was quite proud to have three 5th generations. Also surviving are sister, Phyllis Shelby of Tennessee, half-sister, Joan Shanahan of Fremont, and stepsister, Helen Aldrich of Sandusky. He was preceded in death by infant sister Mary Rose Smith, sister Theodora Gardner, sister, Alice Grasser, half-brother, Ronald Smith, stepbrother, Harold Aldrich and son-in-law, Jerry D. Beach. He graduated from Jackson-Burgoon School in 1932. He retired from Durez Corporation, Kenton, OH. After retirement Stanley and Thelma spent winters in Clearwater, Florida. He was a member of Mt. Blanchard United Methodist Church. He was also a life member and held many offices of Hancock Lodge #73 I.O.O.F.; Historical Lodge #1; Findlay Rebekah Lodge #237; Canton-Findlay #31; Golden Rule Encampment #92; Jackson Grange 228; Pomona Grange; OH State Grange; and National Grange. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2005 at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington, with Rev. Theodore E. Bowers of Pennsylvania officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Madison Twp. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday and for two hours prior to the service (12-2:00 p.m.) Thursday at the funeral home.
