1901 - With husband, 7 children and mother-in-law at The Green, Palgrave, Suffolk. Aged 40, born at Rickinghall, Suffolk.

1924 - Report of funeral in local paper: "The funeral took place at the Parish Church on Saturday last of Mrs Downing, who died suddenly on December 20th. The Rector, the Rev. B. M. Downton, officiated, and during the service expressed sympathy with the relatives in their sad bereavement. The lesson was read by Mr W. Clarke. The coffin of oak, with brass furniture, bore the inscription, "Sophia Downing, died December 20th, 1924, age 64 years." The principle mourners were Mrs E. Race and Miss Mary Downing (daughters); George, Harry and William (sons); Mr and Mrs G. Thurlow, Hoxne (brother and sister-and-law); Mr G. Race (son-in-law); Helen and Florrie (grandchildren), Miss M. Thurlow (niece), and Mr H. Long. Mr Downing, deceased's husband, was unable to attend owing to illness. Among those present were Mr R. Shipp (Diss); Mrs E. Beales, Mrs Bloomfield (Thrandeston), Mrs H. Clarke, Mrs H. Smith, Mrs Nicholls and Miss Brookes. Wreaths and floral tributes were sent by the following:- Husband and family, George and Edith Race, Miss S. Driver, G. Downing, Mr and Mrs G. Thurlow, Miss A. Bloomfield, Mr and Mrs Shipp (Diss), Mrs Hilling, Mrs S. Weavers, Mr Wright (Diss), Mrs J. Thurlow, Mrs J. Whatling (Flixton), Mrs Beales and Mr and Mrs Long (Walcot).
