SOPHIA (SOPHIE) CAROLINE POLKOW was born on 8 Oct 1870 at Thornton, Cook County, Illinois. She was third of five children, three girls and two boys. Her parents both came from Prussia.

She married John Henry Becker, son of Henry Becker and Charlotte [Becker], on 13 Mar 1895 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at the age of 24. John and Sophie were the parents of four girls, Olga, Adele, Alma, and Charlotte. She and John Henry Becker lived at at 5045 S. Justine, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, in 1906, when their youngest daughter Charlotte was born.

Her husband John died in 1926 at the fairly young age of 53, leaving her a widow at 56. She lived alone after him for 26 years. She died on 28 Mar 1952 at 7000 S Maplewood, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at age 81, of Cancer (Carcinoma of Sigmoid, Metastatic Carcinomatosis, a 4 yr illness).
