"Solomon Loughner, son of Adam and Catherine (Hooker) Loughner, was born April 11, 1829, and received his education in the common schools. Agriculture has been his chosen pursuit and he is now the owner of a farm of ninety acres, located between Harrison City and Penn Station. He has been a farmer all of his life. He is in principle and practice a Republican, and his church connections are with the Lutheran denomination. Mr. Loughner married Jane M., the only daughter of William J. and Mary (Bricker) Black, of Grapeville, Pennsylvania. She died in September, 1859. They had no children. She had two brothers, Stanton and Matthew, the latter of whom is living near Jeannette." --- History of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, volume 3 [google books]

"Binding, gagging and assaulting Solomon Loughner, 80 years of age, and his two sisters, both of whom are between 70 and 80 years old, six masked robbers ransacked the house, secured about $1,500 in cash, ate their supper and then disappeared. The Loughners live on an isolated farm midway between Jeannette and Harrison City. The aged brother and sisters are in a serious condition from the ill treatment and shock received at the hands of the six highwaymen. A troop of Pennsylvania state constabulary arrived at the farmhouse from Greensburg, and a rigid search for the robbers is in progress." --- Fulton County News, Jan. 21, 1909, p.7 [This story appeared in newspapers around the country: Montana (2),Nebraska (3), Utah (3), New Mexico, Kentucky, Illinois, Kansas, West Virginia, South Carolina, Minnesota (2), D.C., Louisiana, Florida, South Dakota and Ohio. http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/ ]

"This borough derived its name from the wife of one of the founders, Jeannette being the name of Mrs. McKee, whose husband, H. Sellers McKee, in company with the Western Land and Improvement Company of Philadelphia, together with Messrs. Chambers and Brickell, of Pittsburgh, purchased in the spring of 1888 the farms of J. F. Thompson, Solomon Loughner and J. F. Gilchrist." ---History of Westmoreland County, v.1, 1906, p.504.
