Hello again, Never give up. I just spoke with Tom Cockerel and he thinks you might be onto Simon Cockrell Jr. He would be the right age to have fathered a child out of wedlock. He traveled a lot and would have sought the company of agreeable women as his wife kept the home fires burning.

Most of the information on him is in Breathitt County, Kentucky so to figure this out look up anything you can fine on him. I have a few things though by comparison to the other sons not much.

Since there will not exist any proof except through probate records of his father and mother, Ira Taulbee could be mentioned in the will of Simon Cockrell and that would have given him legitimacy and the right to take the name of Cockrell if he chose.

Let me know where this leads you. Bella
