[frydds.FTW] At the home of his daughter, Myrtel Laxton Silas Fry came to New Mexico in 1908 with his wife and four children from McMinvel Arkansas. They stopped in Clovis, N.M. a month or two and Silas bought a relinquishment of 160 acres of land with a house, a well, a store, and all the stock of merchendiseand the Doreno Post Office for $800.00 from Jim Jameson. Silas broke 40 acres of the land to farm . Amelia was postmistress of Doreno for about 10 years and together they took care of the store raised horses and a few cattle. Enid, Silas' daughter, married and moved to Houston, Texas and during World War I, Silas went to Houston to work in the shipyard where Amelia later joined him. Myrtle, his other daughter, was postmistress until she married and moved to Arkansas. __________________________________________________________ Silas Alexander Fry Rev.O. E.Barker and County Clerk R.M. DeOliviara drove to Dereno Thursday for the funeral of S.A. Fry, father of Fred Fry and Mrs Johnson of that community. Mr.Fry was born July 22, 1852 at Elvan,Pennsylvania, died Sunday at Evansville,Arkansas at the home of his daughter, Mrs Myrtle Laxton. The deceased left two daughters and a son,those mentioned above and they have the sincere sympathy of their numerous friends in De Baca County. References
