Silas C. Burdick, youngest son of Amos and Anstis (Clark) Burdick, was born in Alfred March 12, 1838. He was educated at Alfred and Madison (now Colgate) University, and has passed over 30 years in the mercantile business in his native town. He has served as town clerk one term, supervisor two terms, and was appointed postmaster at Alfred by President Benjamin Harrison, which office he held nearly four years. Mr. Burdick has for many years served as a trustee of Alfred University. In 1863 he married Mary, daughter of Hiram Taylor, of Wirt, a graduate of Alfred University.
