Sigmund (also spelled Siegmund) Breitenfeld was born November 15, 1857. From the translation of his German or Austrian obituary, we get the following information. He was born in Kommenicat, Austria, the son of Postmaster Aron Breitenfeld. After completing his degree at the Gymnasium, Sigmund studied medicine at the University of Prague and became certified as a doctor in Gramen. In World War 1, he served as Austria-Hungary’s physician to the council and had the title of Kaiser’s advisor. He had an outstanding profession as a lung-disease specialist. Dr. Breitenfeld then moved to New York, where he practiced medicine and also functioned as the leader of the German Medical Society. He was also a member of other scientific organizations. He and his wife Hermine (Lewy) lived at 611 W 158th Street and his office was at 162 W 86th Street in New York. He died at age 64 on April 28, 1921 in New York City.
