Sidney Field Passed Away Yesterday Afternoon.

Mr. Sidney field, one of the old and respected residents of Branch county, died yesterday afternoon, Dec. 10, 1907, at 4:30 o'clock. Death was due to a complication of diseases, which has confined him to his home for the past two months. Up to six years ago, Mr, Field was a familiar figure on the streets of Coldwater, but at that time he became totally blind, since which has has remained about his home the greater portion of the time.

Mr. Field was in his 73rd year, having been born March 12, 1835, at Victory, Cayuga county, NY When seven years of age he came with his parents to Branch county and located in Batavia township. He learned the carpenter's trade and became a skilled workman, and later operated as a contractor and builder with considerable success. He afterwards purchased a farm and worked it until, eighteen years ago, when he moved to Coldwater and purchased the site of his present home on Hudson Street.

During his long and busy life, Mr. Field has won a deserved reputation for strict honesty and integrity in all of his business dealings.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Geo. Barnard of Marion, O., and Mrs. E.D. Harkness of this city, also by five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Rosina Wiser, of Hall's Corners.

The funeral will be held at the house Friday afternoon at one o'clock, and interment will be made in Oak Grove cemetery.

[I have not been able to find any reference to Sidney in standard Field genealogies. His birth does not seem to be recorded in Victory, NY, as hinted by his obituary. The following census entry matches closely to the expected age of Sidney but I have not been able to find more information about this family despite its rather unique names, and have stalled at this point. --Jrich 10:13, 1 September 2008 (EDT)]

1. ↑ The location of Victory, NY comes from the obituary, but was not confirmed by birth records of that town, and on at least one census, Sidney also indicated Vermont as his birthplace. So treat the location with a grain of salt.
