Colonel Seth Welty, was a colonel in the Civil war and is now a prominent attorney in Logan, Ohio. [edit] ===================Copyright © 2003 Paul Stoneburner All Rights Reserved. [5E15] HKF p282-3: They had two children; one lived a few hours, the other, named Maggie, lived six months. Mr. Weldy at eighteen entered Ohio Wesleyan University. He took up the study of law at Lancaster and was admitted to the bar in 1857. He practiced law at Lancaster and Logan for some 30 years, and was a conspicuous figure at the bar in southeastern Ohio. He was admitted to the practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, Jan. 6, 1867, and was a man of recognized ability, possessing qualifications that fitted him eminently for high official positions. He represented Hocking County one term in the State Legislature. He was firm in his convictions and fearless in promulgating them. He was twice brevetted for gallant services in the Civil War. He was First Sergt. of his company, later, First Lieut. of his Regt.; was promoted to Captaincy, in the 23rd Inf.; was with his regiment in the battles of Mills Spring, Ky., Shiloh, Iuka, sieges of Corinth, Vicksburg and Jackson. In 1863, he was appointed Judge Advocate of the military division of the South on Gen. Phil Sheridan's staff. When he wrote his autobiography mention was made of his mother, Susannah Huddle, stating that she was of Swiss descent. Undoubtedly he obtained that information from her.
