"391. Sarah5 Stow (Sarah4, [Edward3,] Gershom2, Peter1) born at Middletown, Conn., 10 Aug. 1737, died there 16 Dec. 1819; … Mrs. Savage was thus described by her son: 'She was a woman of great energy of character and unbounded benevolence. She used to say, 'If I swear to my hurt, I will stick to it.' She was very handsome; her eyes were brown, but when very old she became blind, and was burnt to death, her apron catching alight in the open hearth when no one was at hand.'"
