According to a researcher, Sally was born in Ross Co., Ohio to James Ray and Mary (or Nancy) Comer, one of the early settlers.

  In the 1880 census for Dawson, Sangamon Co., Illinois, Sarah Ratcliff is head of household.  She is 60, born Ohio (parents North Carolina).  Her son James is a carpenter, age 37 from Ohio (parents Ohio).  Son 'Amazide' is 35, born Ohio (parents Ohio). Her daughter Eliza is 33. Grandchildren [Amaziah's children] are Ida May, 12; Effa Bell, 10; and Sarah Ann, 7  -- all born in Illinois, father Ohio, mother Kentucky.  {p. 395c, NARA T9-0249}
 In the 1900 census for Dawson, Sangamon Co., Illinois, Sarrah Ratcliff is 80 born Aug 1819 in Ohio (parents North Carolina), widow, with 4 of 5 children living; her son James is 58 born Nov 1841 in Ohio, single, 'carpenter'. They are next door to her granddaughter Sarah (Ratcliff) Crane and family.
