Facts and Events
Sarah Plummer was baptised on 12th February 1711 at Campton in Bedfordshire, daughter of Elizabeth Plummer, formerly Wynne, and her husband John Plummer. The family did not stay long in Campton after her birth; by 1717 they were living at Shillington, a little way south of Campton, and by 1721 they were living at Stotfold, a few miles east of both Campton and Shillington. Stotfold was where Sarah's parents had been married in 1707. From 1721 onwards Sarah and her parents appear to have spent the rest of their lives in Stotfold. In 1736, aged 25, Sarah had an illegitimate son named Thomas. The month after baby Thomas's baptism Sarah married a man named Thomas Bly. Given the short gap between the baby's baptism their marriage, and Thomas Bly's first name, it is considered highly likely that Thomas Bly was the baby's father. Sadly, baby Thomas died less than two weeks after Sarah's marriage, and less than two months after his baptism. Between 1737 and 1744, Sarah and Thomas had another five children at Stotfold, although the youngest died before it could be baptised. Sarah died aged just 35, being buried at Stotfold on 10th June 1746, leaving Thomas with four surviving children aged between eight and three years old. Thomas outlived Sarah by 26 years. When he died in 1772 he was described as an innholder. References
