McConnell family has an oral tradition about a "Jane" McConnell who married someone, and had children Alex, Ella, Charlotte, John, and possibly Sarah Jane, likely other children also. I hadhusbands last names for Ella (Madden) and Charlotte (Jannack) and nothing else. The MIs at Reid's Mills Cemetery made it plain that "Jane" had married someone named "Guy", and that her name was actually Sarah Jane. She was specifically identified as the mother of Charlotte (Guy) Jannack, and she had died in 1873. Ella (Guy) Madden also was buried at Reid's Mills. I found the Guy family inthe 1881 census, with a living mother named Jane, minus son John, but with additional children Eliza, born in 1866, William, born in 1869, and daughters Isabella Emmy and Bertha Jane, both of whom were born after 1873. So it seems likely that Sarah Jane was not a daughter, but the original mother, who had died shortly after Charlotte was born. Widower Abraham, probably not too handy with the care of a newborn, and apparently with no extended family nearby, promptly found himself a new wife. There is a marriage on record in nearby Grenville county for an Abraham Guy in 1873. In the 1901 census, Abraham and "Jana" show upin the town of Vernon, with son John A., aged 15. Additionally, the local church records show membership lists that include the following Guy groupings: Andrew, Jane, James (and wife Susanna), Eliza, Albert; Emma, Nathan, Ada Jane; Emma, Mary E.; Etta G, Wm. Nathan. Albert shows up in the church records as the father of Kenneth, James, and Loren--and Kenneth shows up later with wife Annie and children. Alexander and William seem to have moved on--unless Alex and Albert were the same person!
