In Petersburgh, N. Y., April 9th, 1863, Mrs. Sarah Holmes, wife of Capt. E. S. Holmes, aged 67 years, and 6 months. She was a devoted Christian. As a wife and mother, she was a model of excellence. As a neighbor, especially to the poor and suffering, she was kind without ostentation. She manifested from her childhood that modest and cheerful spirit that strongly attached her to all with whom she was acquainted. She possessed to an excellent degree that strength of purpose, and that decision of character, that never yielded to discouragements and difficulties. She is deeply mourned by her afflicted family, a large circle of relatives, and a sorrowing church, of which she was a most worthy member.
Her funeral was attended on Sabbath, by a large concourse of people, who listened to a sermon by Eld. T. A. Maxson, from the text, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
