    Notes for Sarah HUGHES:
According to a letter written by Katherine Forwood, Sarah was the daughter of Mary Johnson. Sarah's mother Mary is believed to have been the sister of Dorothy and Brasseya Johnson, two sisters who married two Allen brothers and immigrated to America, accompanied by their niece Sarah. Following her aunt Dorothy's premature death, Sarah married Richard Allen.

After Richard Allen's death, Sarah also married Thomas Bond and bore him one or two daughters. Presumably her age is inaccurate during the 1850 Federal Census when she is found living with Thomas W. Bond, age 69 and their daughter, Adeline, age 15, or she would have been only ten when she married her first husband. (District No. 2, Franklin Co., Kentucky, p.58)

Sarah is buried under the name "Mrs. Sarah Bond," next to her uncle Rev. John and her aunt Brasseya (Johnson) Allen's monument. There are no references to her husbands or her children except for her inscription which reads: "Mother Thou art at rest for the Lord is Thy Keeper." She is referred to as "Mrs Sarah Bond, born in Co. Wicklow, Ireland, Jan 1796; died Cheltenham, PA, Oct 31, 1868 in her 75th year." Her monument is coffin shaped with a cross running its length.

The Genealogy of the Hughes Family 1636-1795, by Renna Craug Ambrose, which is available at the Harford County Historical Society in Bel Air, Maryland, has incorrectly identified the daughter of John Hall Hughes and Ann Everett, Sarah Mitchell Hughes (b.1780), as the person who married Richard Allen in 1812.
