  4. Source:Jackson, Francis. History of the Early Settlement of Newton, County of Middlesex, Massachusetts, from 1639 to 1800, p. 303, shows Sarah Hammond, d/o Joseph, b. 1747, m. 1769 Norman Clark Jr. He shows Sarah Hammond, d/o Benjamin, b. 1751, m. "--- Wiswall". This last form usually indicates a probate document, mostly a reliable source, but is not explained by Jackson. In this case, apparently not, since all the other evidence says loudly that it was indeed the daughter of Benjamin that married Norman Clark, including the age at death, the death record from Benjamin's own account book, and the naming of a son Benjamin, but not Joseph. Norman ends up living with a "Joseph Wiswell" in the 1840 census. Norman's daughter Sarah born by first wife Sarah Hammond in Princeton 1776, apparently is the Sarah Clark who m. Newton 1807 Joseph Wiswall, and probably was named as Sarah Wiswall in Benjamin Hammond's estate distribution of 1810 as a heir of his deceased daughter, meaning Jackson mistook her for the daughter, rather than the granddaughter she was.
