Son James’ death certificate lists name as Sarah Baker, b. KY, and that was consistent with the family story and her frequent use of the initial "B", so was assumed for many years. Daughter Ida’s death certificate lists her name as Sallie Haylard, b. TN, but that was thought to be a mistake. In 2017, cross-database searches on Ancestry revealed the marriage of John J. Adams and Miss Sarah Halyard in 1863. Further research demonstrated that Sarah Halyard of Montgomery Co, TN was the daughter of James Baker Halyard, who was in turn named after his mother, explaining the Baker connection. (Lesson: trust the older daughter for her mother's name!)
