He was 5' 9 1/2" tall or 5'7" depending which record, dark complexion, black eyes and dark hair when he enlisted, per military pension papers.

After the war up to 1909 he lived 8 yrs in Waukesha county WI, 3 yrs in Spring Bluff IL, and the balance in Pleasant Prairie, Bristol Twp, WI., per his pension application.

He was a laborer when he enlisted in the Army; 1900 he was a farmer; 1905 a gardener and at time of death he was a retired farmer.
