    North Carolina, In the name of God Amen.
    The twenty-fourth day of October One thousand seven hundred and fifty-three, I, SAMUEL WILLIAMS of the county of Edgecomb in the province aforesaid being sick of body...do make &c. this my last will and testament in manner and form following, First I give and bequeath to my son WILLIAM WILLIAMS 20 shillings,
    Second, to my son SOLOMON WILLIAMS 20 shillings and the first negro child born on the plantation,
    Third, to my Grandson SAMUEL WILLIAMS negro PATT
    Fourth, to my son SAMUEL WILLIAMS 100 acres in Mush Island (ie. Mush Island was also known as Plumbtree Island, located in present day Weldon, North Carolina.) I bought of ROBERT LANG and 100 pounds,
    Fifth, to my loving wife, ELIZABETH WILLIAMS, negroes MINGO, COOB, PRISS, and LUCEY,
    Sixth, to son JOSEPH JOHN WILLIAMS, the plantation where I now live, also the plantation I bought of JOHN BURT, 150 acres bought of JOHN EGERTON, 100 acres adjoining the mill and 290 acres adjoining YANCEY's line and the Reedy branch.
    To my sons SAMUEL and JOSEPH JOHN negroes BRISTER, TOM, LONDON, EASOP, DINER, HASHEY, HANNAH, CLOYE, MOLLY, ESSEX, RACHEL, BROOMFIELD and PENNY, with the remaining estate to be divided between my wife and sons SAMUEL and JOSEPH JOHN.
    Lastly, Executors: my son WILLIAM WILLIAMS and my son SOLOMON WILLIAMS and my trusty and well beloved friends PHILIP ALSTON, BENJAMIN WYNN.

    102 – Samuel Williams Sr. – Elizabeth Alston Family – 101 – 100 – H – Samuel Williams Sr. was born in Virginia and crossed over the border line and married Elizabeth Alston. He is thought to have lived in Chowan County until about 1739 when he moved to the County of Edgecombe. He was then appointed Justice of the Peace for Stony Creek, obtained a grant of 400 acres of land in 1739, 400 acres in 1740, 300 acres in 1741, and 640 acres in 1743 and purchased other lands. He lived and died in Edgecombe County, N. C. His will is dated Oct. 21, 1753 and was probated in February 1754. In his will he leaves his property to his three sons, grandson and wife. Children mentioned in the will were –
    (A) William Williams
    (B) Samuel Williams Jr. who married Mary Dudley – 103 - .
    (C) Joseph John Williams.
    He mentions his grandson, Samuel Williams. The executors were: Phillip Alston and Benjamin Wynes. It was witnessed by Thomas Kearney and his son Edmund Kearney; James Alston was then Clerk of Court. There was a Coat of Arms on the seal. We do not know what his Coat of Arms was but this connects him with Heraldry of England. He left to Joseph and John Williams 11 negroes and 800 acres of land on Reedy Branch, and to Samuel Williams Jr. – 103 – he left his plantation on Mush Island. [ie. Plumbtree Island].

  3.   Samuel Williams (ca 1695-1754), was the son of William Williams & Mary Moore of Chowan Co.,NC. He was married to Elizabeth Alston (ca 1700-bef 1805) the daughter of John Alston (d. 1758) & Mary Clark. Samuel & Elizabeth's children were: William Williams (ca 1720-1778 Martin Co.,NC) who married on Oct. 2, 1746 to Elizabeth Whitmell-Blount-Pollock (twice widowed), the grandson, Samuel Williams mentioned in the 1753 will, was William's son, who was born that same year; Solomon Williams (ca 1723-1794 Halifax Co.,NC) married on June 23, 1757 to Temperance Boddie (d.1784); Samuel Williams, Jr. married Mary Dudley; Joseph John Williams (ca 1727-1818 Halifax Co.,NC) married 1st to Rosanna Conner, 2nd to Elizabeth Alston (1st cousin, dau/of Philip Alston & Winifred Whitmell); and Elizabeth Williams (died early in life). After the death of Samuel, Elizabeth remarried on Sept. 17, 1765 to Richard Burt (1724-1805 Halifax Co.,NC), a widower formerly married to Rebecca Stevens.
