    "34. Capt. Samuel3 Welles Jr. (Capt. Samuel2, Gov. Thomas1), born 13 April 1660 in Wethersfield, Connecticut (Barbour citing LR2:30); and died 28 August 1731 in Glastonbury, Connecticut (Barbour citing VR 1:14) at age 71 according to the gravestone in Green Cemetery (Hale 7). Samuel Welles inherited his father's lands east of the Connecticut River and was a first settler of the Town of Glastonbury when it was organized in 1690. … he was the deputy to the General Court in May 1697, October 1750, April 1707, May 1712, October 1712, May 1713, and August 1713 (Col. Recs. 4:197, 521; 5:19, 308, 346, 363, 393). He was appointed as the first Captain of the Glastonbury Trainband in May 1698, with Samuel Hale, his brotherin-law, as the Lieutenant (Col. Recs. 4:253)."
