Wakeman, (Rev.) Samuel, s. of John. Colonial grant of 200 acres, May 1673. Preached Election Sermon, 1685, and again in (perhaps 1690). Bapt. at Bewdley, co. Worcester, Eng., 7 June 1635, d. at Fairfield, 8 Mar. 1691/2; m. at New Haven, 29 Oct. 1656, Hannah Goodyear, dau. of Dep.-Gov. Stephen; she m. (2) Nathaniel Burr, and d. in 1721. Ann Wakeman testified in the witchcraft trials, Sept. 1692. It is odd that in this and the probate record (1721) her name appears as "Ann"; but this name was sometimes used interchangeably with "Hannah", and no evidence has been found to suggest that Mr. Wakeman had more than one wife. Will 8 Mar. 1692; £3 to Church for silver bowl; £3 to a grammar school in Fairfield; £2 to the poor, ten shillings of it to Thomas Jones; Indian servant Jane to have liberty at 26 (in 1698) and £5; son Samuel dec'd had portion (and the loan of silver money at his last marriage); sons Joseph and Jabesh (latter to be brought up to learning) and dau. Mary; wife; son John, Exec'r. Inv. 8 Apr. 1692. Adm'n on Est. of Mrs. Ann Burr of Fairfield granted, 9 Nov. 1721, to Capt. Joseph Wakeman, who presented Inv. "of his mother."
