Person:Samuel Torkington (1)

Samuel's parents were Alfred Torkington and Catherine Scanlon, married on 31 May 1877 at St. Mary of the Assumption, Burnley, Lancashire, England (Online Parish Clerk). Samuel was the third of twelve children (Lancashire BMD; first nine also found on Online Parish Clerk).

His brother John, born in 1883, married Alice Durkin, and this couple must have continued in friendship with Samuel and Annie because the name 'Durkin' was one of those regularly cropping up in family conversation.

According to the Online Parish Clerk site, Samuel's father died aged 55 and was buried on 21 May 1910, in grave A16069 at Burnley Cemetery. His last address was 106 Westgate. Samuel's mother lived to be 83, and was buried (the same grave) 23 Jan 1937. Her last address was 158 Padiham Road. Two of their infants had previously been interred in this grave.
