The Howard Story by Lewis Edward Howard, April 17, 1981, Topeka, KS

Ebenezer Howard Represents the oldest generation of the Howard ancestors we

have of recors. His name appears in the first Federal Census Schedule, 1790, Canaan, Columbia Co, NY. When Ebenezer died c 12 June 1812, he left his widow Eunice and children, Martin, John, Hiram, Patty (wife of John Benedict), Abigail (wife of William Pierce), Lavina (wife of Samuel Stower), Phoebe (wife of Andrew Rukel) and three daughters, not of age, Lena, Susanna and Anna.

Martin removed to Madison Co, NY in Earlton & Hamilton. Abigail with husband

William Pierce, and Lavina and husband, Samuel Stower also lived in Earlton & Hamilton.

Hiram, the youngest son, with his wife, Elizabeth Haight and two sons,

Ebenezer and Hiram, were residing in New Lebanon, near Canaan, according to the 1850 Federal Census.

John Howard, second son of Ebenezer, and the second great-grandfather of the

writer, was born 1792 and married Harriet DeWitt in Canaan, NY in 1811.

After Ebenezer's death, John, Harriet and children, John Benjamin and Harriet

Jane moved to Granby, Oswego Co, NY, where their son, Lewis T. was born 11 August 1819. While Schedule of 1830 indicates there were five children, records for only two, Frank and Hannah were never located. Hannah supposedly married a Bart Tiffany in Michigan.
