Samuel Stebbins6 son of Samuel Stebbins and Sarah (Wood) Jones was born Sept. 8, 1751, in the fourth precinct of Springfield (now Wilbraham), Mass., died Jan 20, 1821; married to Ursula Griswold of Simsbury, Conn., born in 1766, who was a daughter of Captain Edward Griswold and Abigail Phelps. Profession, Congregational minister. Resided at Simsbury, Co. No children.

    Samuel Stebbins graduated from Dartmouth College in 1775, and … was installed as pastor of the First Church of Christ at Simsbury, Conn., on Dec. 10, 1777. … At a meeting held Nov. 3, 1806, a letter was received from Mr. Stebbins which he asked for his dismission from the pastoral office. He continued preach at Simsbury a number of years after his dismission, and acted for a time as Chaplain of the Old Newgate prison at Granby."
