Samuel Long Sam Samples, a son of Hiram Sr. and Elizabeth (Hall) Samples, was born in November 1868 and died in 1962. He married Melinda Dow Procious. Melinda, a daughter of Adam and Elizabeth (Furlong) Procious, was born in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, in November 1874 and died in 1962.
Long Sam Samples bought 140 acres of land from Joshua and Sarah Moore on January 17, 1881. Long Sam was fifteen years old at the time.
Long Sam Samples was only one of four Samuel Samples' that lived in the Twistabout community during his life time.
Long Sam and Short Sam were neighbors and were never known to agree on anything, except that there should be a fence between their properties. However, each had his inflexible idea of where the property lines ran, and each built a fence where he thought the line laid. These two fence were from eight to twelve feet apart, leaving a lane between then that was about a half mile long and that was locallyknown as "Samples Lane."
