His parents were Nathaniel Mott (born August 21, 1631died February 23, 1674/75 in Braintree, Norfolk, Mass) and Hanna Shooter (born February 16, 1637/38). Their children (from Braintree Vital Records) were Mott EbenezerM10m 07d 1675 652 Mott EdwardM03m 11d 1673 650 Mott ElizabethF03m 17d 1671 649 Mott JohnM06m 19d 1659 642 Mott Lydia *F12m 05d 1666 646 * Sprague Mott MaryF10m 15d 1664 644 Mott NathanielM10m 28d 1657 634 Mott NathanielM06m 30d 1661 819 Mott SamuelM11m 19d 1668 647 The earliest records of the town are given in figures instead of using the names of the months, e.g. 2-2-,1647 which is April 2, 1647 since the year began in March on the 5th day and March was called the first month, April the second month and so until February which was the twelfth month. Some historical searchers have failed to recognize this and confusion has resulted. In the ancient records the preceding year was usually written up until March 25th , though not invariably. For instance, a record of Feb.20,1647 usually should be written as Feb.20,1647/8, now written as 1648. (According to this information, I have Samuel with his brother Nathaniel's birthdate.) From Genealogies of Connecticut Families, p. 300 Champion Genealogy Correction by Francis Bacon Trowbridge The first wife of Joshua Champion (7, p.34) was Mary Mott, born at Lyme, Conn., 10 Mr. 1692/3, daughter of Samuel (not John) and Mary (Brockway). This is proved by the will of Samuel Mott, on file at New London, Conn., a copy of which was sent to me by G. Andrews Moriarty, Jr., Esq., of Newport, RI. The birth of this Mary Mott is given in Mr. Moriarty's article on "Nathaniel Mott of Scituate and his Sons" . From Savage's Genealogical Dictionary NATHANIEL, Scituate, able to bear arms 1643, rem[oved]. to Braintree, m[arried]. 1656, Hannah, Shooter had Nathaniel, b[orn]. 28 Dec. 1657. References
