Death of Samuel Moore
Samuel Moore, a well known and respected citizen of Auburn, died at his home near that place on Saturday, September 17th, aged fifty-nine years, five months and seventeen days. The funeral, which was probably the largest
ever held in Auburn, took place Tuesday morning at 10:00 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Brown. Samuel Moore was born in County Down, Ireland, March 21st, 1845, and was married to Anna Baxter, December 8th, 1866.
He joined the Presbyterian church at the age of fifteen and has continued his membership in that denomination ever since. Several years ago he was elected trustee of the Auburn church and was serving in that capacity at the time of his death. He moved to Scotland at the age of sixteen and worked at public works three years, then returned to Ireland on a visit. He returned to Scotland at the age of twenty and served as police one year. At twenty-one he returned to Ireland and married.
Farmed in Ireland two years and then with his wife and daughter, Mary, came to America in 1869 and located on Six
Mile creek, near where he lived. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his death—John B., Malcolm, Mary E., Susie A., Maria, George A.,Hugh I., and William J. Also three grand children—Samuel Henderson, John Henderson and Lena Moore.
