Obituary of Samuel E. Martin [undated news clipping from unidentified newspaper, but presumably Bloomfield, Indiana]
Samuel E. Martin, the son of John and Mary Ann Martin, was born at Owensburg February 7, 1862. His father was a soldier in the Civil War and died while in the service of his country.
He was united in marriage to Miss Rachel A. Hatfield, May 8, 1862. To this union was born seven children, Norman, Elvan and Curtis, of Newberry; Mae, Ruth and Elphia, of Lafayette, and George, of Linton. He also leaves seven grandchildren and an aunt, Mrs. Sara Creighton, of near Bloomfield, besides a host of friends.
His wife departed from this life May 17, 1923, and he has since made his home at Lafayette, where after only a few days illness of heart’s disease, he died May 17, 1927, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mae Webster. His death was a shock to his relatives and friends for he was beloved by all who knew him.
He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America at Newberry for many years.
His remains were brought to the home of his son, Curtis Martin, of Newberry, May 19, and the funeral was conducted May 21 at the Methodist Church by Rev. McBride, of Youngstown, assisted by Rev. Stauffer of Newberry. Interment was in Newberry Cemetery.
