    Sergeant Samuel3 Lewis was born Aug. 18, 1648, in Farmington, son of William and Mary (Hopkins) Lewis. He lived in Farmington; was freeman there 1677; "Sargeant in ye trained band," 1676 (at that time the militia was called the "trained band"). He married Elizabeth Orton, who was bapt. 1654, daughter of Thomas1 and Margaret (Pratt[?]) Orton. "Elizabeth, wife of Samuel Lewis, joined the church in 1691." She probably died, and he married, second, Mary _____, who was mother of his last six children. "Mary, wife of Samuel Lewis, joined the church in Farmington, 1707." He died Nov. 13, 1725, at Farmington. Authorities do not agree on names of his wives.
