Samuel Lewis, b. Charlestown 24 June 1641 [NEHGR 4:268; ChVR 1:5], bp. there 27 June 1641 [ChChR 50]); living 26 August 1695, apparently unmarried [MLR 10:419]; no further record.
[Note: the deed referred to is here (starts at bottom of right page). In this deed "Samuel Lewis of Malden", with John Melvin of Charlestown and as attorney for John Lewis of Windsor Connecticut, Abraham Lewis, Bryant [Burdens?] who married Elizab'th Lewis, Samuel Penfield who married Mary Lewis, Joseph Braybrook who married Sarah Lewis, Tryall Lewis, Thomas Pratt administrator of Isaac Lewis, all of the children and heirs of John Lewis late of Malden Dece'd... If this deed is the only reason why Anderson says Samuel is "apparently unmarried", his conclusion would not reflect common practice at the time. Wives typically did not sign deeds to show consent until mid-1700s or later, and it would not be unusual to have no wife signing even when one is known to have existed, especially when the deed involved an inheritance of the husband. In fact, that Samuel Lewis of Malden is clearly identified as a son of John Lewis is pretty reasonable evidence that the many secondary sources that claim, that it is son of John Lewis who married Sarah Dutton, are right.]
