"And says his father A. H. Lester lived in 1870, at the Mouth of Petes Branch 4 miles east of Davy, WVa, we had our camp there and was always trying to keep to ourselves, we dug ginseng for a living. The reason he was never enrolled with the Cherokee Indians, to the best of my knowledge was he knew nothing about it. I never heard him say anything of his brothers or sisters to best of my knowledge he didn't know of any of them, when I first can remember I never heard of a Postoffice or Courthouse, and the community was thin settled it was 15 to 25 miles from one settler to another if my father ever voted I know nothing about it."
