    The Late Samuel Christie Krieger
Samuel Christie Krieger, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krieger of Palmer Rapids, was born in Raglan Township near Wingle, Ont. August 20, 1898, and passed away May 29, 1972, in the General Hospital, Pembroke, in his 74th year.

He was married December 23, 1918, to Sarah Jessup, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Jessup of Brudenell Township, who predeceased him July 18, 1950.

After living in Palmer Rapids for some years, he purchased a farm at Purdy and farmed for several years. In 1929, and in the early '30's he went into the lumbering and logging business in partnership with his brother, the late William Krieger. Dissolving the partnership later he went into the logging operations for the York River Timber Co.. From this he branched into the lumbering industry, operating his own sawmill at Hartsmere and Letterkenny where he sawed for the late Verner Gutz, then at Rockingham, Schutt, Boulter and on the Opeongo Line near Barry's Bay for Murray Daly.

Later he bought a farm near Beachburg where hr farmed for several years, as well as carrying on logging and lumbering operations at Clontarf and Burnstown and again at Letterkenny where he sold his mill to Garnet Yuke.

From Beachburg he moved to Pembroke because of his wife's illness and she passed away within two years.

Here he was mill-wright for several lumbermen and then worked as carpenter for Louis Markus and Son until ill health forced him to retire. His last years were spent on the B-line near Pembroke.

On September 5, 1951 he was married to the former Alice Schoenfeld in the former Evangelical United Brethren Church of which he was a member. In the later years he attended the Pentecostal Church in Westmeath and then in Pembroke.

Left to mourn are his family, <living> of Palmer Rapids, Cecil of Pembroke, Lawrence of Arnprior, <Living> of Smiths Falls, <Living> of Beachburg, Wilmer and Barbara (Mrs. Paul Friessen) of Ottawa and <Living> of North Bay, along with his wife Alice and step-daughter Dolly (Mrs. Elymas Maves) of Pembroke, 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Alvin (sic) Phannenhour of Pembroke.

[From 12 July 1972: The account of the death of Samuel Christie Krieger read: :Left to Mourn - one sister Mrs Alvin Phanenhour." This was an error. It should have read "Mrs Alvina Phanenhour." She was wife of the late Tom Phanenhour.]

His body rested at the Malcolm and Deavitt Funeral Home until May 31st where a large host of relatives and friends called. The floral tributes donations to the Pentecostal Living Memorial Fund and the Canadian Bible Society were an indication of the many friends he had made.

Memorial service was conducted in the Pentecostal Church, Pembroke, by Pastor Earl Young, assisted by Rev. Wm. Smith of the Missionary Church, Pembroke. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Holtz sang "He the Pearly Gates will Open." The hymns used were "I will Praise Him" and "It is Will With My Soul," both personal testimonies of Mr. Krieger. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Honorary pall-bearers were Elmer Faught, Campbell Faught, Ivan Yuke, Neil Leach, Elvon Burkholder and Leo Roesler.

Active pall-bearers were Murray Krieger of Palmer Rapids, Kenneth Summach of Saskatoon, Mervin Krieger, Tom Griffith, Howard Jessup and Harry Holtz of Pembroke.
