Samuel Forsey was baptised on 17th October 1824 at Winsham in Somerset, son of Elizabeth (Betty) Forsey, formerly Pye, and her husband Francis Forsey, a labourer. Francis Forsey had been married before and Samuel had several half-siblings from his father's first marriage, with his eldest half-sister being over thirty years older than him. Samuel's father has yet to be traced after Samuel's baptism.
Samuel appears in the 1841 census living at Back Street in Winsham with his mother, working as a labourer. In 1851 he was lodging in Winsham and still working as a labourer. Between 1851 and 1861 he left Winsham and moved to the hamlet of Howley in the parish of Pitminster.
The 1871 census finds Samuel as an inmate in the Chard Union Workhouse.
Samuel died there in 1878, aged 54. He was buried back at Winsham.
