Attended Benedict College. Moved to Chester, SC in 1905. Took over blackschools in district. Black high school in Chester (now demolished) wasnamed for him. Retired in 1952.

According to Bernice Garlington, Samuel visited Tulsa,presumably to visit relatives. Oral conversation with Bernice Garlington, 9/05.
