New York Times, 2 Sep 1915 Samuel T. Davis, Jr. Dies President of Locomobile Comany a Victim of Ptomain Posoning Special to the New York Times Fairfield, Conn., Sept. 1-- Samuel T. Davis, Jr., President of the Locomobile Cmpany of America, died at his Summer home here this morning, after an illness of several days, due to ptomaine poisoning. He was taken ill in his office last Saturday. Death was produced by cerebral hemorrhage, which followed the poisoning. Mr. Davis was born in Washington, D.C., and was in his forty-third year. He was graduated from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York in 1893 and was the head of his class. After this he became assocaited with Amzi L. Barber in the asphalt business and for a time was Manager of the plant in Porto, Spain. He was a pioneer in the automboile business and when Mr. Barber formed the Locomobile Company in 1899 he went to Bridgeport. Conn. k as Manager. His enthusiasm for moto-propelled cars was so great that fifteen years ago he drove a steam car to a world's record over the Coney Island Boulevard. His recrdo was 1:15 for the mile, and Henri Fournier drove a gasolitne car the same distance in 0:51 1-5, making another world's record. In 1897 Mr. Davis married Miss Irene Barber, daughter of Amzi L. Barber and made his home at Ardsley-on-Hudson until 1902 when he rmeoved to Bridgeport and built a summer home at Sasco Hill in this town. ... In addition to his widow, a daughter Miss Irene Davis survives him. It is said that his firm has recently profited largely by war orders and that Mr. Davis was weakened by overwork and business cares when stricken by his fatal illness. References
