Purchased 80 acres on 2 Dec 1833 in St. Joseph County at Twp 7-S, R 11-W, section 17, PO White Pigeon Prairie.

On the same day, Person:John Coats (13) purchased four plots in the same township (sections 9 and 20), having previously purchased plots in section 17. The two men do not appear as neighbors on the census, did not immigrate on the same ship, and do not otherwise appear to have been closely connected, but they are buried in the same cemetery. There is also a Samuel Coats, baptized 1 Jun 1801 in North Newbald, Yorkshire, the parish where John had his children. Samuel's parents, Thomas and Sarah, had children starting in 1777, and thus could have been John's parents as well, but there is no John in the records extracted in the IGI.
