His home was on Limestone Ridge (Wirt County). The Dave McClain farm was part of his large land holdings. In early life, he affiliated with the Dunkard Church and was a minister for many years. He was a man who was well-respected in the community where he lived and died. He, Rev. Gault and Rev. Showalter did a great deal in the pioneer days for religion in the Limestone Hill locality. Rev. Boice had in his charge for many years the spiritual welfare of the people worshipping according to the Dunkard faith at the local church near his home.
