Facts and Events
Samuel and Harriet Andrews, arrived in Australia as free settlers aboard the Strathfieldsaye in 25 July 1839. Sir John Jamison of Regentville engaged the couple while still aboard the Strathfieldsaye, and they worked for him until his death in 1844. Thereafter they appeared to work in the general St. Marys/South Creek district. It has not been established conclusively that Samuel and Harriet owned land in the district. However, according to a relative, Rhonda Hunter, Samuel is named on the Nepean Electoral Roll 1869/70 as living on the Western Road and in the Official Post Office Directory of 1872 as a farmer living in Colyton (just east of South Creek). He died 23 October 1883 at Rose Cottage. Generally the history of the early members of the Andrews family has been quite well documented, including by obituaries in the Nepean Times. References
