Samuel Anderson Alfred Demadison Akin born July 6, 1847 in Green County, Kentucky, died May 6, 1929 in Green County, KY. Burial Sam Akins Cemetery, Green County, KY. Samuel married February 9, 1869 to Mary Alice Walker born June 13, 1849 died April 13, 1933 buried in Sam Akin Cemetery.

The death certificate of Samuel A. Akin on file at Frankfort, Kentucky gives his father as Jeff Akin. It does not give his mother's name. Information for the certificate was given by Samuel's oldest son Charlie Akin.

Samuel A. Akin taken ill Sunday afternoon and died Monday morning at 6:30 o'clock from a stroke of apoplexy. He as a resident of Green County, Kentucky all his life. He served in the 13th Kentucky Regiment of the Union Army under the command of General Hobson.

He and his wife located on a farm 3 miles west of Greensburg and remained there during his lifetime. He was known as one of the most progressive and prosperous farmers in the county and had accumulated considerable fortune. He professed faith in Christ at the old Brush Creek Baptist Church in early manhood and remained a devoted christian all his life. The funeral was conducted by Dr. David L. Druin assisted by J. N. Milby. -Taken from Samuel Akin's obituary that was in the Greensburg Record Herald May 1929.

In 1975 Dr. David L. Druin said that before his death, Samuel had asked him to conduct his funeral. The funeral was under a tree in the yard. A very large crowd attended. The big family accounted for a part of it, but many of the county's professional and business people attend along with neighbors and friends.

Samuel was a very large, rough man, having little or no formal education. A man who attended to his business of farming well. He respected his fellow man and in return was respected by others.

Mary Alice Walker Akin was the daughter of Charles H. Walker and Mary Bloyd. Charles Walker was born 1815 and married November 12, 1836 in Green County, Kentucky to Mary Bloyd. Charles and Mary Walker's children were: Ann Walker, George Walker, John Walker, David Walker( who was killed by a horse when he was around 26 years of age. He was never married.), Elizabeth, nickname "Puss" (she married --- Lobb), Greenberry (called "Green"), Nancy Walker, Mary Alice Akin, and Martha Walker.

In the mid 1970's, the farm of Samuel and Mary Akin was owned by a great-grandson. The big old house is now vacant. The stone fireplace is cold where once fires of burning hickory logs gave warmth. The kitchen no longer smells of home grown foods cooking. The cradle is empty, its children now sleep in graves. The orchard out back, the smokehouse and bees that made gallons of honey are all gone. A grand daughter took the family Bible to the big city. A great-grand daughter has the family picture made in 1877. A rolling field is no longer planted in wheat for family bread and straw for beds. The big black horse and buggy belongs to history.

Near by is the family cemetery started in May 1908. It has 23 graves all marked with nice stones. The bodies have decayed but their memory live on. Samuel and Mary Akin had 71 grand children born between 1891 and 1929, of these 5 died in infancy and 5 others died while small children. One never married, 4 married but have no issue, 56 married and have issue of 214 children. These 214 are great grand children of Samuel and Mary. These were born between 1915 and 1971. There are 405 great-great-grand children. Samuel and Mary have over 825 descendants. These live in Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, California, Mississippi, Ohio, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Indiana, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia and the Philippines.
