Born in Portage Co., OH, to Russel & Rebecca Cooley Loomis, of substantial New England ancestry, he received his early education in the rural schools of OH, IL & MI. Married 1st Mary Fidelia Cooley, 1856, and had Sarah, Merinda, Mirian, Franklin, Mary, Maynard, James, George, Charles, Effie, Alvira, & Angeline, 8 of whom grew to adulthood in Red Willow Co., NE, where the family homesteaded. After her death, he sold out and returned to MI where he married 2nd Corintha Beals, 1904, retiring to Linn Co., OR, in 1906. Married 3rd Phoebe Sturtevant, 1920, Lebanon, OR. Veteran of the Civil War 1864-65, Company G, Ninth Michigan Volunteer Infantry. He loved to hunt & fish, and was a faithful servant to the Lord.
