At Cedar Rapids, Iowa, March 20th, 1865, Eld. Rowse Babcock, in the 62d year of his age. Eld. Babcock was born in Leyden, Mass., from whence his father removed to Scott, Cortland Co., N. Y. From Scott Eld. B. removed to Allegany County, N. Y., where he lived at the time of his ordination to the gospel ministry. Since that he had lived in various places in New York State,, in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and in Canada.
Most of the time for the last year he lived in Alfred and vicinity. But suffering much from sickness, a few days before his death, he went to Cedar Rapids, where three of his children lived. Although his friends feared he might not recover from his sickness, still death occurred sooner than they had thought it would. His death was peaceful, and his hope unshaken the mercy of God through Jesus Christ. N. V. H.
