In 1931, following her graduation from high school, Rosaline was living with family friends in Olympia while attending a Secretarial School. At this time she met Morgan Brassfield. After a short courtship, they eloped and were married in Tenino on December 2, 1931. While leaving on their honeymoon they were in a automobile accident where Rosaline was injured and taken to a hospital. Her parents were then notified. Her father, Gustaf was a very strict and private man. He immediately took her home and proceeded to tell Morgan Brassfield she was underage and their marriage was not valid. Further, he was to have no contact with her. Correspondence did continue according to Goldie Von Salzen who had a friend who worked in the post office in Ashford.About a year and a half later when Morgan was managing the service station in Toppenish, he was notified that Rosaline was very ill with peritonitis. She was hospitalized in Tacoma, WA. He came to visit her in the hospital. At this time Morgan and Roseline’s parents made peace and it was agreed that they could live together as man and wife once she left the hospital. Roseline died shortly thereafter. The Von Salzen family owned and operated Von’s General Store in Ashford, WA. It also contained the Ashford Post Office. This information was obtained from Goldie VonSalzen, who was married to Rosaline’s brother, Louis. Louis died in about the 1960’s. Goldie is now over 91 years old, and lives in Gig Harbor, WA. Roseline is interred in a crypt in the Tacoma Masuleum. (October 2001)..Goldie passed away in 2006.
