Robert E. Lee Stewart was only nine months old when his father died from wounds received in the Civil War.

At the time of his death, Robert E. Lee Stewart was a retired farmer. He owned the Lamar home that was formerly owned by Benoni S. and James S. Lamar and on which is located the Lamar Cemetery. The farm became the property of his son, Robert Stewart after his death.
