Robert Shappee was probably born in Orange County, New York. He was christened in 1786 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Machackemeck, Deerpark Township, Orange County, New York with his siblings Jesse and Keziah. He married Nancy, probably about 1807, since their first known child was born about 1809. Nancy and Robert had two known children, Ira and Elizabeth. Robert's date of death and place of burial are unknown. On 17 August 1815 Nancy Shappee sold land to Benjamin Smith in Tioga County, New York. This is probably the Nancy who married Robert Shappee. If so, it probably means that Robert had died by that time, since he is not mentioned in the record.
