    As noted above, Robert and his five ch. by his 1st marriage appear to have come over about 1764 from Co. Monaghan, Ireland, with his brothers Hugh, Joseph and John, and his sisters; their uncle William (with, perhaps, some of his ch.); and their parents, Samuel-1 and Isabella (Riddell) McChesney. After living in the Jersey City-Newark, N.J. area for about a year Robert (and doubtless his brothers and sisters) removed to Brunswick, Rensselaer Co., N.Y., where he leased a farm from Stephen Van Rensselaer, and became "wealthy and respectable". The farm adjoined his brother Hugh's (M.J.B.).
