Robert McCartney Sr. came from Ireland no later that 1785 and was married to Mary Mitchell, a native of Scotland. They settled near Pittsburgh, their youngest daughter Mary McCartney-Sprong being born in Old Fort Pitt later known as Fort Duquesne, the year of 1801. In the year of 1812 he having purchased 70 acres of land near Sheakleyville, Pa. moved his family there. His youngest child, Mary, being 11 years old at the time. (Probably from Mercer Co. History 1909, found in Sharon, Pa. Library. This information was taken from a note written by Gladys Nicklin McClurg to my mother, where in she quoted several histories from this book.)
