Robert Donnelly was born August 1850 in New Jersey,S1 probably in Newark. He married, say 1867, Harriet “Hattie” Mason, daughter of William J. and Sarah A. Mason, of Belleville. She was born say 1850S2 and was dead by the time of the 1910 census, when Robert is a widower, living with his son Frank at 46 Alexander Street in Newark. In 1870, on 21 June, Robert, Harriet and daughter Mary are reported as living with his parents in Woodside, the short-lived municipality that included what had been and are again parts of Newark and Belleville. He was working as a mason. But enumerated in the family of William J. Mason of Belleville are Harriet S. Donnelly, age 20, and Mildred Donnelly, age 1. In 1880, they were living in at 79 Boyden Street, Newark. The name of the first child is given as Mildred. Robert is a house painter. In 1900, he is living at 10 Columbia Street, Newark. He is listed as married, but his wife is not enumerated with him. Two sons are living with him, Albert, a butter maker, and Walter. He may be the Robert Donnelly, painter, living at 84½ Bremen Street, Newark, in 1891. References
