General Louis H. Carpenter in his 1912 book "that it is most probable that Robert Carpenter was the son of Thomas and father of John, the dates not conflicting." See page 3 of that work.

Robert married a Elizabeth ? and he was buried at St. Mary's Church on 28 APR 1604. His will was dated 11 June 1599 witnessed by Robert Batt of Wiltshire and Philip Poore of Durrington was the overseeer. See Below. Note: Several POORE family members were passengers on the ship BEVIS in 1638. "Item - I give unto Richard Carpenter of Amesbury, 20 shillings . . . Item - Overseer is to be my good friend Phillip Poor of Durrington (which is near Amesbury) . . . witness . . . Robert Batt."
