    A native and resident of St. Francisville, Robert Ormond Butler, born on Aug. 5, 1919, died on Wednesday, Oct.18. 2006, at his home on (Butler) Greenwood Plantation.

    Visiting at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville, religious service, conducted by the Rev. Stephen Holmgren and the Rev. John Senette.

    Burial followed in the church Cemetery.

    A graduate of LSU in agriculture, he served with distinction in the 320th Glider Field Artillery Battalion of the
    82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army, during World War Il.

    He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action in Holland. He also served as an officer during the campaigns in Africa, Sicily, Italy, the Normandy Invasion, Belgium and Germany under Gen. Matthew Ridgeway and Gen, James M. Gavin, who was in command at the Battle of the Bulge.

    A longtime cattleman for three decades, he served as manager of historic Rosedown Plantation and Gardens, overseeing the restoration of the home as a nationally recognized tourist attraction while also supervising the working plantation's extensive cattle and timber operation.

    He is survived by a daughter, Virginia Pipes Butler and her husband. Michael F. Healy, of Washington, D.C.; a son, Robert Ormond Butler Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth A. Butler, of St. Francisville; and five grandchildren, Katharine Lintot Healy, Annie Butler Healy, Mary Minor Butler, Elizabeth Anne Butler and Jeanne Cody Butler.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Minor Pipes Butler.

    Pallbearers will be William Davis Jr„ Carl Metz, Dr. Chaillie P. Daniel, Stephen E. Wesley, Patrick L. Butler and Nolan Percy.

    Honorary pallbearers are Edward I. Daniel II, Judge C. Linton Sartain, retired Gen. Robert H. Barrow, Christian Metz and Eric Nelson.
